Interview of Death

Kiss of Death at the Interview

1. The surest way to guarantee the failure of any interview is to go negative at "any" point. (There is a complete discussion of this topic in the PMSP, see link below.)

2. If you can't say something good or positive, say nothing; either in conversation or as the answer to a direct question.

3. Commit your "story" to writing, practice it, refine it, make it positive, then practice it until, you feel comfortable, then practice it again.

4. Do not interview until you are ready!

5. The key words to a successful interview are:

a. "individual responsibility"

b. "team"

c. "planning"

d. "sales strategies"

e. "solution selling"

6. Life is not fair, but what have you learned about making it so; how have you grown, prospered, and succeeded. If you find yourself feeling or going negative, stop, regroup, and go back to your rehearsed story!!!!

The "glass" can really be either half full or half empty it is up to you. An interview is more perception than fact. It is always an attempt by both parties to get to know one another, a "sense" of perception. It is give and take, but the interviewee is not, even in light of the limited market resources today, in the same position as the interviewer. Watch the "code" words above, you are being judged in many ways, verbal, nonverbal, and statistical.
